Why does my cat sleeps on me?

Your cat has an entire bed.
A blanket.
Three suspiciously expensive cushions.
And yet every night, they choose to sleep directly on top of you like they are paying rent with body weight.

Cute? Yes.
Comfortable? Absolutely not.

But if your cat sleeps on you, it usually means something good.

1. They Love You

Cats are not exactly known for being dramatic about their feelings.

So if your cat chooses to sleep on you, congratulations. This is basically their version of writing you a love letter.

They feel safe, comfortable and attached to you.

2. You Are Warm

Cats love warmth more than they love literally anything else.

And unfortunately for you, your body is basically a heated mattress.

Why sleep in their own bed when they can steal yours and your circulation at the same time?

3. They Trust You

Cats are most vulnerable when they sleep.

So if your cat curls up on your chest, your lap or somehow directly on your face, it means they trust you completely.

Which is a very big deal coming from an animal that gets suspicious when you move one piece of furniture.

4. They Are Claiming You

Cats are tiny little weirdos and they like things to smell like them.

When your cat sleeps on you, they are also leaving their scent behind.

Basically, they are saying, “This human is mine now.”

5. They Like Your Routine

Cats love routine.

If you go to bed at the same time every night, your cat probably knows exactly when it is cuddle o’clock.

One minute you are getting into bed, the next minute there is suddenly a cat on your stomach like they spawned there.

When Should You Worry?

Usually, your cat sleeping on you is completely normal.

But if they suddenly become extra clingy, start sleeping on you all the time when they never used to, or seem unwell, it could mean they are stressed or not feeling great.

Cats are strange, but big changes in behaviour are always worth paying attention to.

Finally

Your cat does not sleep on you because they have no other options.

They sleep on you because they like you, trust you and think you are warm.

So yes, your cat lying across your chest at 2 am like a furry paperweight is annoying.

But it is also kind of adorable.
