Cats have somehow managed to convince the entire world that they are mysterious little geniuses who can do no wrong.

Unfortunately, that has led to some very weird myths.

Here are some of the biggest ones people still believe.

1. Cats Are Cold and Do Not Love You

Absolutely not.

Cats just show love differently.

Dogs are dramatic. Cats are subtle.

A dog will throw themselves at you like they have not seen you in 40 years. A cat will sit next to you, blink slowly and sleep on your face.

Same emotion. Different font.

2. Cats Always Land on Their Feet

People say this like cats are tiny furry superheroes.

Yes, cats are very good at twisting in the air. But they can still get seriously hurt if they fall.

So maybe do not let your cat sit on the balcony railing like they are invincible.

3. Cats Hate Water

Some cats hate water.

Some cats will happily sit in the sink, attack the shower or act personally offended if you try to stop them.

Cats are weird. There are no rules.

4. Indoor Cats Do Not Need Exercise

Your cat may spend 19 hours a day sleeping and the other 5 staring at a wall for no reason.

But they still need playtime and exercise.

Otherwise they get bored, stressed and start doing things like sprinting across your face at 3 am.

5. Purring Always Means They Are Happy

Usually, yes.

But cats can also purr when they are stressed, scared or not feeling well.

Which is very unfair because they made one sound mean four completely different things.

6. Cats Can Take Care of Themselves

Cats act independent, but they still need attention, routine and actual care.

You cannot just put food in a bowl and hope for the best.

That is not a pet. That is a roommate.

7. Milk Is Good for Cats

Cartoons lied to us.

Most cats cannot properly digest milk, which means that cute little bowl of milk can quickly become a very unfortunate situation for both of you.

8. One Human Year Equals Seven Cat Years

That is true for dogs either.

Cats age much faster when they are young, then slower later on.

So your one-year-old cat is not basically seven. They are more like a chaotic teenager with absolutely no impulse control.

Finally

Cats are confusing. They knock things off tables, sleep in boxes instead of the expensive bed you bought and somehow make you feel guilty in your own house.

But the more you understand them, the easier they are to love.

Even when they are being tiny little menaces.
